How much heat do I need ?

The amount of heat required depends on the nature of the area to be heated and the heat requirements of the individual. We can only give general guidelines. The idea of infrared heating is to warm the people within a given area but not to warm the whole area. For further details on infrared see "What is infrared heating" page.

We are proud to offer a very wide selection of heaters. With the choices of power, waterproof (IP) rating and style, you can select the ideal heater for any particular location. Below we give guidelines on power and area coverage. Be sure to select an IP (Ingress Protection) rated heater for outdoor use. Where the second number is 4 or more, the heaters are suitable for outdoor use.

The heat output of each heater is dependent on its wattage. The higher the wattage, the higher the heat. Please bear in mind that the maximum wattage that can be run from a 13 amp socket is 3000 watts.

A 1500 watt heater will heat an area of approximately 12 square metres. However, the closer to the heater you are, the warmer you will feel – people on the edges of the warmed area may need supplementary heat. It is therefore important to place the heaters in the best possible position in relation to where people will actually be and it may be worth considering having heat coming from 2 directions. The pictures on this page show typical installations using 1 of the HLT15 heaters.

For each of our wall-mounted heaters we give a suggested area coverage. For your heat planning, make sure that the table/people positions are within that area. We also give a maximum recommended distance (rec. max. dist.) that people should be from the heater, in order to feel its benefit. Look for this information with every heater when placing your order.

Installling your heater

Full installation instructions are provided with each heater. For your guidance, recommended wall mounting height for a 1500 watt heater is 2.2 – 2.5 metres with an air gap above it of 0.3 – 0.5 metre.
